Prof Dr. Zoltán Horváth (M) is the head of Department of Mathematics and Computational Sciences
(since 2006) and founder and leader of Simulation and Optimization Research Group. He received
his MSc and PhD in mathematics from the Eötvös Loránd University
(ELTE), Budapest in 1989 and 1994, respectively.
He habilitated at Faculty of Informatics, ELTE
in 2012. He is a professor since 1999 and received his university professor
title from the Hungarian President in 2013.
He has published one book and over 60 scientific papers
on numerical analysis of differential equations, optimization, scientific computing and industrial
mathematics.
He has led and contributed in several projects in automotive industry, transportation, environmental and health sectors, among others simulation
and optimization of wet brakes for heavy duty vehicles, optimization of production lines, flow noise analysis of external mirrors of cars, modelling air pollution of cities under accurate spatial 3D resolution and construction of a software for colorectal polyp classification. In 2011 he received IBM's faculty award for pursuing
HPC in research and education.
He is the president of the Hungarian Service Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation, HU-MATHS-IN, which is
the Hungarian national node of EU-MATHS-IN, both leveraging the impact of mathematics in
industry and innovations. He is a board member of EU-MATHS-IN and member of the European Mathematical Society's Applied Mathematics Committee, the EMS AMC and
a board member of EU-MATHS-IN.
