I. The mission and legal status of the faculty

The Faculty was founded by the Faculty of Law of the Loránd Eötvös University of Sciences (Budapest) (LEUS) and the István Széchenyi Polytechnic University of Applied Sciences (ISPUAS) on June 25 1995 in Győr.
The objective of the institution was to educate students and post-graduates in law and political science at the István Széchenyi Polytechnic University of Applied Sciences in Győr according to professional standards and under the professional supervision of the Law Faculty of LEUS. The independent legal status of the Faculty was defined in the Statute as follows:

the Faculty is an independent branch of the Faculty of Law of the LEUS in all educational matters.
the Faculty has the status of an independent faculty at the ISPUAS and is incorporated into the university’s administrational and financial structure.

According to the Organisational and Operational Rules (OOR) the founders have assigned the managerial and leadership tasks, including the organisation of the educational program and business administration, to the Dean of the Faculty and the Board of the Faculty.

The students who were admitted to the Faculty until 2001 approximately yearly 130  were under the academic supervision of and their diplomas were granted by the LEUS Faculty of Law.
On 1st January 2002 the ISPUAS became a fully accredited state university with a new name, István Széchenyi University, and within the University the Faculty of Law and Economics was established.  The Faculty incorporates two institutes the Institute of Law and Political Science and the Institute of Economics.
The teaching of law started at the Institute in September 1995 and the first law graduates received their diplomas in 2000.  2002/2003 will be the first academic year in which the University admits law students on its own right.  For the time being the Institute will educate students both under the supervision of the LEUS and teach its own curriculum for students admitted after September 2002.
On 1st of January 2007 the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences was established.
With the continuous development of its internal structure and teaching staff the Faculty is capable of meeting the growing academic and teaching challenges.
