The institute was established in 1995 in co-operation with Petz Aladár County Hospital, which is the teaching hospital for Semmelweis University of  Budapest, and thus has a faculty status. In the academic year of 1996/97, the institution started baccalaureate nursing and social work training programmes in the form of full-time and distance learning. It runs post-graduate mentalhygienic and health promotion training programs, and provides high level professional training in nursing and midwifery.

About the course:
The
department is responsible for training  nurses who are able to carry out nursing tasks in all fields and levels of health and social provision: when carrying out prevention, healing, nursing and rehabilitating duties they are able to discover and use the information and resources necessary for nursing jobs. They can do nursing tasks individually or as group members taking the different characteristics, dignity and rights of people into consideration. They are able to organise and supervise the nursing activities  carried out by others.

The course extends over four years, of which 50 % is spent on theory and 50 % is spent on practice. Students undertake clinical internships Petz Aladár County Hospital. During the last semester the students prepare an individual final year project (diploma thesis). This is frequently connected with their future work. The studies are closed by a state examination, including the assessment of the diploma work.

About the Course:
The
objective of social work education: to educate professionals, who by using all the available resources necessary for solving social problems, are able to carry out social work duties. This helps improve and restore the life and functioning of individuals, families, groups and communities and helps create the complex conditions which are necessary for realising this aim. This activity is aimed at improving the connection between the individual and the complex environment.

About the course:
A
university or college degree is a basic requirement for admission to the course. After the successful oral entrance examination students are to be trained in a complex way. Taking the principles of complexity into consideration education, public health and social policy are the major fields. Factual knowledges of mental hygiene is provided by qualified experts.

Training aims to fortify preservation, improvement, health education, as well as the system (raising the effective work of the institutes used for prevention), cure and rehabilitation to a higher level. Convertible knowledges on the level of planning, decision making and execution is also provided. Being in possession of the formed common approach, students are able to take part in regional prevention.

The department is responsible for directing the education of social workers, teaching the subjects of social studies, social policy and social work and training in laboratories. It organises and co-ordinates field practice. The department also takes part in nursing and mental hygiene programmes, and offers elective subjects for students of other faculties.
