A Brief Summary of the Educational Background:

Education in economics at the undergraduate level (B.Sc.) dates back to the year 1990, although graduates (M.Sc.) have been trained since 1997. Ten sears ago the demand for degrees in economics was limited, approximately fifty students opted for our faculty. Today there is a huge interest, which 300 candidates in each year (1100 in total) plus 700 students opting for distance learning. Thus, the Faculty of Economics has become the dominant faculty of the university.

Scientific activity in the Faculty is based on highly qualified human capital. There are both full-time and part-time professors (including an academician and five lecturers qualified as D.Sc.). Intensive effort is carried out in establishing a Ph.D. programme with the intention of securing future scientific and educational backgrounds.
The research profile is planned to be transformed in the future based on the following pillars:

Educational Tasks of the Department:

The aim of the department is to provide graduate students with knowledge of high standard in the field of international economic relations that result in strategic economic decisions at both the micro and macro level.  The opportunities and potentials of the Faculty of Economics are taken into consideration by the department (the large number of transnational companies in the region, the short physical distance to Austria, the relatively low number of the students, the knowledge of the German language and the possibility of co-operation with Austrian research and educational institutes). The task of the department is to enable students to control and take part in decision making procedures. After graduation, students will meet the requirements of international enterprises and will be able to carry out professional work in the countries of the EU. It is extremely important to be aware of the fact that international economic and political decisions can only be made after thorough study in the field of World Economics.
