CENTRE OF DISTANCE AND
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
2006/2007 Academic Year

The Centre of Distance and Vocational Education
was set up in order to utilize - on a tuition fee based training - the human
capital available at the college in 1985. Succeeding the former correspondence
courses, distance educational courses have become a distinctive area of further
studies for almost 2,000 students.
In cooperation with the teaching and
non-teaching units of the University the Centre organises and coordinates
within the university:
The Centre runs programmes meeting
the quickly changing demands for workforce caused by the present dynamic social
and economic changes. Our training system is very flexible in organizing
customer-oriented courses (including courses of secondary education listed in
the National Training Directory) covering a wide range of areas of economy,
technical sciences, informatics, commerce, national health service, music and
language teaching as well.
Our preparatory courses are designed for
secondary school leavers who want to apply for places in institutions of higher
education. Students of these 2-semester courses are trained in mathematics,
physics, economics and history - the subjects of the entrance exams. The
preparatory courses aim at levelling out the differences between the secondary
shools' training systems and also at providing equality of opportunity of
students.
On the basis of the secondary school leaving
examinations the Centre provides post-secondary specialized training leading to
qualifications and also training promoting further studies. In the latter form
of education credits are taken that may be included later at university or
college studies.
In the frame of this progranmme students
take part in a short preparatory module at the beginning of their higher
educational studies and then they are allowed to join the second year of
studies on the given course. Apart from this there is another advantage of this
new form of training: students dropping out from colleges or universities can
join this course and get vocational qualifications with the help of credits
already taken at college or university. This training has been introduced to
develop multilevel secondary and postsecondary education by ensuring credit
transfer.
With the collapse of the correspondence
education graduate distance learning courses are to satisfy the needs of
economics and society. Students of this form of training can make use of
specially designed distance learning coursebooks, tutorials, consultations on
the phone.
Postgraduate courses leading to a second
degree in a special field are designed for graduates (with a college or
university degree) according to the current economical needs.
The Centre runs consultancy subcentres -
providing at least 25 candidates apply for the training - in the following
cities: Budapest, Pécs, Újszász, Szentgotthárd and Eger.
